When you travel alone you feel free, you meet new people, you can fall in love, you rest like never before, problems are left behind, you overcome fears and insecurities and you get to know yourself, Forbes reports.
According to hostel booking site Hostelworld, there has been a 42 per cent increase in backpackers travelling the world in the last two years alone with more women than ever before.
And among the favorite destinations is the land of lakes and volcanoes, Nicaragua, in second place only surpassed by the historic and charming Cuba.
Nicaragua has something for everyone: history, colonial cities, heritage, beaches, excellent surfing spots, volcanoes for extreme sports or simply admiring nature, mountains, contagious dances, exquisite cuisine, excellent routes to get from one point to another and a variety of places to stay.
The other eight destinations, in order of preference, after Cuba and Nicaragua are: South Africa, Bulgaria, Guatemala, Sri Lanka, Macedonia, Portugal, Tanzania and Romania.
Figures show that the number of bookings by single women increased by 45 percent between 2015 and 2017, five percent more than their male counterparts.
Recently, journalist Suzanne Bearne wrote in an article for Refinery29 "For me, there is no happiness like swinging that backpack on my shoulder and heading into the unknown, feeling completely free and with no one to please but myself.".
Hostelworld attributes the trend to “a combination of better technology, with apps that allow us to easily discover our next location.” “We are no longer waiting for a suitable travel companion.”
