Rural and Community Tourism Circuits
Rivas
The department of Rivas, located in southwestern Nicaragua, has established itself as a prominent tourist destination thanks to its natural diversity and cultural richness. Comprised of municipalities such as San Juan del Sur, Tola, Cárdenas, and the iconic Ometepe Island, Rivas offers a variety of experiences that connect visitors with the authenticity of local communities.
Ometepe Island, recognized as a Biosphere Reserve, is home to initiatives such as the Puesta del Sol Association, where local families offer tourism services that integrate traditional agriculture with sustainable practices. Additionally, projects such as the Magdalena farm in Altagracia and Puesta del Sol in Moyogalpa seek to promote ecotourism in harmony with the natural environment.
These initiatives reflect Rivas' commitment to responsible tourism, which not only attracts national and international visitors but also empowers local communities, preserves cultural and natural heritage, and contributes to the department's sustainable development.
