Archaeological Site Museum "Huellas de Acahualinca" _managua_cultura5

The ancient Acahualinca Footprints are human footprints located near Lake Xolotlán or Lake Managua. They were accidentally found in 1874 by workers. They are 6,000 years old, making them the oldest human footprints on the American continent. Initially, it was believed that the footprints corresponded to about 10 people (men, women and children) who were trying to escape the eruption of a nearby volcano, but a study ruled out this idea and the hypothesis is that the people were not escaping from any eruption, they were simply on their way to the lake in search of food and water. In honor of this event, the Acahualinca Footprints Museum was created, located 4 blocks west and 1 block north of the Santa Ana Church, in the municipality of Managua.
