Rural and Community Tourism
Tourism in Nicaragua has grown steadily, thanks to the peace, stability and favorable conditions that the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity (GRUN) has been guaranteeing. This sector is positioned as one of the most dynamic in the national economy, generating revenues of 739.2 million dollars in 2023, and accumulating 3,617.3 million dollars in the last seven years, according to data from the Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN, 2023).
Rural and Community Tourism includes sustainable activities in rural areas, carried out by local actors to diversify the tourist offer, generate jobs and offer visitors unique, experiential and participatory experiences, promoting the enhancement of Nicaragua's natural, cultural and architectural heritage.
The Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism, with the purpose of promoting this modality, presents the First Catalog of Rural and Community Tourism Initiatives, which includes 29 initiatives classified in: Agrotourism (8), Rural Tourism (10), Rural and Community Tourism (6) and Nature Tourism (5) that add to the country's tourism offer.
