San Jacinto Hot Springs

The Hervideros de San Jacinto, located in the town of the same name, are at the foot of the Telica volcano. They are lava springs very close to the surface that boil when they are full of water. Characteristic of the area are the colored mud (pink and yellow) generated by the activity of the lava which was formerly used to paint houses. If there is enough water, the springs produce small geysers.

Volcanic clay is recognized for the large number of benefits it provides to our body. Being a 100% natural and biologically active product, volcanic clay like Tierra de Los Hervideros de San Jacinto does not have side effects that damage the skin.

It is the youngest volcano in Central America (167 years) and the most active in Nicaragua. It measures approximately 728m. It is a cone formed by ash and black sand, hence its name. Its eruptions are generally expulsions of pyroclastic fragments, ash and lava. Its last eruption was in 1999. Its young age and constant activity make it impossible for trees and plants to grow on its sloping, black slopes. Some parts of this volcano are covered by huge rocks and others by fine sand.

Climbing it is quite an adventure. It is located 25 km from the city of León. The Pilas – El Hoyo Community Tourism Cooperative is located on the site, providing tourist guide services, sandboarding, canopy and an observation deck for iguana and snake breeding sites.
