Article No: 12 Obligations of Foreign Persons contemplated within the Immigration and Foreigners Law:  Non-resident foreigners may not perform tasks or gainful activities on their own account or in an employment relationship, except for those who have been authorized by the Ministry of the Interior due to special circumstances, such as artists, athletes, members of public shows, temporary workers and business people. In the case of migrant workers in their different forms, the authorization will be granted by the Ministry of Labor.

Minors under 18 years of age must be accompanied by their biological parents. If traveling with another family member, please consult the specific case with the Nicaraguan Consulate in your country of residence.

Your stay varies depending on the subcategory as a Non-Resident Foreigner with which you enter the country. Consult the regulations of the General Law on Migration and Immigration

You must present a valid Passport or National Identity Document depending on the country of origin.

Non-residents are foreigners to whom the General Directorate of Migration and Immigration grants authorization to enter and remain in the national territory for a specific period of time in accordance with Law No. 761 and its Regulations.

The acquisition of Nicaraguan nationality is the solemn, formal act by which the Minister of the Interior, through the Directorate of Migration and Foreign Affairs, grants Nicaraguan nationality to a foreign citizen who, of his or her own free will, has decided to adopt Nicaraguan nationality after fulfilling the requirements established in the General Law of the Directorate of Migration and Foreign Affairs.

According to the subcategories, they are NON-residents: tourists, transit travelers, commercial delegates or representatives and traveling agents, travelers on sports, official missions, health, conventions, conferences or special events, special visitors, migrant workers, cross-border workers and international transit crew members.

The General Law on Migration and Foreigners establishes categories, migratory qualities and special residence permits. Admission of foreigners to the national territory is carried out under the following visa categories according to the reason for entry:

1. Diplomats (Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
2. Guests (Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
3. Residents
4. Non-residents

They must meet the following requirements:

  1. Enter through an authorized entrance.
  2. Present a passport valid for more than six months or an immigration document recognized by Nicaragua.
  3. Carry the respective entry visa if required or residence card.
  4. Comply with the procedures established by the immigration office.
