Mystical fire of the Nahuatl.
The only island in the world with two volcanoes in the middle of a freshwater lake attracts more and more visitors year after year, definitely a natural wonder. This island, with its lush nature, rich history and friendly people, is made up of two imposing volcanoes, Concepción (1,610 meters above sea level) and Maderas (1,394 meters above sea level).
It has much to offer to those who visit it. Beautiful beaches, interpretive trails, archaeology, museums and a lot of history in the place where many have found their oasis of peace.
The first city in importance on the island, it has the main port through which most tourists enter and also an important commercial port, its name in Nahuatl means "mosquito island". Although the city is small, it has all kinds of hotels and accommodations, as well as restaurants serving national and international food, bars, and car and bicycle rentals.
Point Jesus Maria
Located 5 km from Moyogalpa along the cobblestone road to Altagracia is a small peninsula or inlet of water into the lake called Punta Jesús María. This natural attraction extends up to 1 km in dry seasons. It is an interesting experience, as the waves occur on both sides of this beautiful stretch of sand.
Concepcion Volcano
If you feel physically prepared to climb a 1,610-meter-high volcano, go ahead. Starting from its slopes full of vegetation and banana plantations.
Taking into account that this is an active volcano, an indescribable adrenaline is felt when climbing after a certain height the fumaroles are seen. Getting to the end of this near-perfect cone and seeing the entire island is the reward and well worth it.
El Ceibo Museum

Ometepe
From Cacao to Córdoba, this museum has the most complete collection of coins that have circulated in Nicaragua at all times and in all eras. It is the El Ceibo museum and is located within the Hacienda El Refugio. In this museum you can also learn more about the political history of our country through its 5 very well-equipped rooms and in its pre-Columbian museum more than 1500 pieces of ceramics, gold, flint, oxidiana and jade are exhibited.

Santo Domingo Beach
White sand beaches? Yes! Ometepe Island also has beautiful beaches with very good quality hotels, located on the island's isthmus near Altagracia. On these beaches you can also practice water sports such as windsurfing, appreciate the island's biodiversity, walk through the Cabuya Forest to the south or travel along the Istián River to the east.
Istian River
It is a bird sanctuary on the island of Ometepe. A beautiful place surrounded by pure nature where you can observe resident birds, migratory birds among which stand out from tame and beautiful herons to the majestic falcon. Located on the isthmus, in the southwestern part of the island, you can get there on foot from the road to Santo Domingo, but the greatest adventure is to get there by kayak from Merida across the lake and have the impressive view of the two volcanoes at the same time.
Maderas Volcano
The route begins at the foot of the volcano, in banana plantation lands. As we continue along these paths we can find petroglyphs that tell us about the ways of life, customs and traditions of our ancestors on the island. The route is hard, but rewarding and the reward is to contemplate the beautiful view, the wooded landscape and then descend to the beautiful and cloudy crater lagoon, an exaggeration of nature.
Waterhole
It is a natural pool, in whose transparency you can see the bottom. It is fed by the waters that emanate from the volcanic soils and the waters of the Buen Suceso River. Surrounded by forest and the singing of birds, it is an ideal place to take a dip.
Green puddle

One of the most visited destinations and has one of the best hotels in Ometepe. Located within the Charco Verde Natural Reserve. This Reserve has many legends and very interesting places such as its forest, its trails, its lagoon and its beaches. You can climb El Mirador del Diablo and contemplate the view of the entire reserve and the lagoon, you can also relax or take a kayak ride on its calm and crystalline beach which is one of the best on the entire Island.
Pre-Hispanic Heritage
A good guide or expert can take us to see all kinds of engravings around the Maderas Volcano that try to tell us about the way of life of the Nicarao Indians, who came from Mexico. The story goes that the leaders of the tribes imagined this island of two volcanoes and that is why they inhabited these lands.
