The Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve of Nicaragua is located south of the colonial city and the Isletas de Granada, just 55 kilometers from Managua.
Extinct long ago, this volcano is now completely covered by vegetation, forming a unique ecosystem where around 52 species of mammals, 238 species of birds, at least 12 species of amphibians, 36 species of reptiles, about 100 types of butterflies and 765 species of flora live.
