The second reproduction of New Segovia was founded in the current settlement of the city of Ocotal by Spaniards, Creoles and indigenous people most likely around 1780 and almost simultaneously with the settlement of the residents of San Antonio Tejas, as both sought the proximity of the haciendas. This reproduction was founded on the site of San Nicolás del Potrero, constituting itself as the municipality of New Segovia in 1809 and due to the existence of an abundance of ocote trees it was given the name of Ocotal.
